The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has named Leeds as a possible location for its new regional HQ along with other hopefuls Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, and Bristol.
The new HQ for the MoJ would provide the host city with an additional 2,500 more jobs and requires space that would host these workers and the current 1,000 staff members.
Ideally, the Government is searching for a building or area that can host a 250,000 square foot office building and Leeds has been placed on the shortlist as the chosen location although the MoJ says that there has not been an official decision made.
The MoJ said that the decision will be based on the value of the purchase in terms of cost and business location.
Deputy Leader of the Leeds City Council said recently that Leeds is proactively attempting to catch the MoJ’s attention so that they are chosen by the Government for the new office although he would not confirm it is the MoJ government office in particular Leeds is bidding on.
