Singing Songs of Love to God

So, here we are. We’ve got this practice. It can start just as a circle. It then can become a Deity, a Deity that can even become alive. It’s actually saying, “I, as a Co-Creator with God, am recognizing and beginning to utilize the power of God.” It’s my Divine Heritage. It is here in me right now. I’m using it. That’s what we’ve been talking about, is all the ways we’re using it already that are ineffective, that aren’t working for us.

Swami Ramananda, who was my initial teacher, whom I loved dearly, had as his teacher Mahatma Ghandi. Because Ramananda had this wonderful affection for Ghandi, of course I had it too. One day, I’m riding in the backseat of a Volkswagon Bug, and from the radio came on an old rock and roll song; it was called, “Funny Face.” It said something like, “Funny face, I love you. Funny Face, I need you. I want to make you a part of my life.” And I’m singing this song and the people in the front seat turned around looked at me and said, “What’s going on?” And I said, “I’m talking to Ghandi!” That’s what you want to do. You want for every song that you hear, you want to select the song that’s going to help you remember the qualities of the Deity or Guru that you want to bring out in your life.

But the beauty of this is, we actually have the ability, we actually can turn off the radio, we can change the station if it brings up a song that excites the ‘victim’ superstructure within us. Really recognize that this more than just the Deity practice of the Everyday Sanyasin. This is the ‘pith’ instruction. This is the foundational instruction of Deity practice, whether it’s Vedic, whether it’s Tibetan Buddhist, whether it’s Christian. I mean, the minister will say, “Make Jesus a part of your life.” It’s a very interesting thing. One time, it was Christmas, thirty-two or thirty-three years ago, and one of the Swamis said to a group of us sitting there, “Now, you’re all from America. You all probably grew up in Christianity and right now we’re in a very strong Christian holiday. Tonight, when you’re listening to me, I want you to remember back to a Christmas carol that you sang as a child that really had meaning to you, that really resonated with you. Don’t worry about the words. Don’t get intellectual, don’t fight with the words, but try to touch your child’s connection with the Christmas carol.”

Inspired For Women

One man can make a difference. I’ve been saying this and writing around this subject matter for over a decade now. It is not to the exclusion of women as I originally used the phrase in reference to mankind or society if you prefer. A decade ago, my pursuit of the quest to make a difference, to be involved, to inspire ended up taking a back seat. Survival in the moment and dealing with family and health issues took the front seat. Now, most of that is behind me and to a large degree it has been women who have made the difference in my growth and healing; unique powerful, loving, nurturing women.

This post serves as a reminder, an acknowledgement, a song of praise, if you will, for women. It’s important you realize just how powerful and wonderful you are as a woman, as a female, as someone who has a unique blueprint different from the male of our species. Your gift is priceless when used well with integrity and you conduct yourself from this seat of female power. It’s not the media’s and popular culture’s representation of female wiles, cunning, and manipulation. No, it’s the power of the nurturer and spiritual values.

I speak partly from my own experience that has a depth and richness that is so hard to explain. It also includes influence from historical perspectives and the recognition that almost every great man in history has attributed a large part of their success to the great woman in their life. I attribute it to the call in my heart and the need in my soul for that connection and healing balm that only the company of a woman can provide. How can words possibly express such complexity and yet such simplicity so that it is understood and owned by all women.

It is my desire to empower each of you to be the greatest woman you can be. If I had any advice for your day-to-day living, I’d say look to women who are mature in experience and who have a healthy perspective on love, life, and relationships. Women who are successful in their relationships and careers without compromising the highest values that ring so true in all of our hearts.

I can also say that I have much to offer in one-on-one coaching as a result of my own life experience with women and my perspective on the unique power of women. I do this with female clients in my coaching business now and it is a huge honor for me. It pains my heart to see women limiting themselves due to poor self image and beliefs developed from family, peers, society, media and boys or men who have caused pain.

Don’t hold back, be all that you are made to be.

Yes, one man can make a difference, but the truth is, Women make all the difference!

Peace, love, harmony - it is power.

Be divinely beautiful; it radiates from within.

Best wishes, Lee

Inspiration From Other People - Is It Worth Listening To A Film Star?

Yesterday, I listened to an interview with Michael York, the film star. I listened half-heartedly at first and then with fascination. By the end of the conversation I had discovered at least one inspiring truth i.e. It is well worth listening to other people without prejudging what they can teach you.

It is amazing how much other humans can teach us. But if we don’t believe that they can teach us something, we will not listen to them nor will we read their books or listen to their audios or watch their videos and DVD’s. We will miss out on huge amounts of valuable information.

Michael York (D’Artagnan in The Three Musketeers) went to the USA about 30 years ago and has lived there longer than he lived in the UK.

He was not tempted to join other UK actors like Oliver Reed in alcoholic and drug excesses. He could see no sense in not being at his best. Life is too interesting.

He now lives in California with his American wife where it is easy to live a healthy lifestyle. He asks: “Why wait until you get ill and then go to a doctor to clean up the mess? Why not take preventive measures to keep you in optimum shape? We take care of our cars; why not our own bodies?”

He takes herbs and vitamins and a chiropractic treatment once a week. He does not believe in treating the head (or mind) without taking the body into account. He prefers a holistic approach.

He has a thoughtful faith. “I have a faith but not a faith that wears a label. It’s an amalgamation of all sorts of influences. I was raised in the Church of England and was brought up with the beauty of the English Bible. It never leaves you but I get resentful at fundamentalist Christianity when it becomes my God and not your God.”

Agnosticism is part of his amalgamation of influences: “There’s nothing we can be sure of until we pass into the next dimension.”

He was very impressed by a comment from his friend Peter Ustinov: “You know, we are united by our doubts and divided by our convictions.”
York comments: “In the world today, that is so true”.

When he was asked “Do you believe in an afterlife?”, he gave a fascinating and inspiring reply:

“If you get into the study of health and the body you find out that we are all energetic organisms. The whole world is a compact of different energies. It seems quite plausible that there is a different sort of energy operating after life”

“Do you meditate?”
“I have tried to meditate but I am a little impatient I confess. I do listen to classical music, if I can, all day. That is an equivalent of meditating. Somehow those great rhythms do wonderful things to your mind and body.”

I learned a lot from Michael York yesterday about health, meditation and life after death but the greatest lesson of all was:

Have enough faith to listen to other people, whoever they are, and to read their books. You might learn something worth learning! You might even be excited and inspired.

You don’t have to agree with everything other people say but at least listen to their views and you may well hear something you have never heard before or have never heard expressed so well before.

If you have a stack of books you have not read or a stack of videos you have not watched just start reading and watching. You might be amazed at what you will learn!

Even if you have read the books before or watched the videos before, read and watch them again. It is surprising how much valuable information we forget. We all need reminding and inspiring again and again.
